JT's Oceanic Ultimate

oh.. as far as your lighting. You are only using 1 MH and 3t5's? Only plan on keeping SPS on one side of the tank? If so thats original and I like the idea, cheaper to run electrically also.

The skimmer A250, I am thinking I might go with this skimmer over the much cheaper Octopus Extreme 250. Its double the price though. I am also going to use my 75gallon non RR tank for my sump so we are going to have pretty much the same setup in a few months!!! I'll be an avid follower and I am learning alot from your thread already. Quick question on the glass you got cut for the 75gal sump. What were the dimensions of it and I am not really sure on how your sump works. Are you planning a fuge in the sump also? What is the level of the sump when the return pump is off and it has settled (the water level) Are you planning on a Tunze Osmolater also? Thanks man!

It is coming along nicely Jason. I had a 29 set up like that about 11 years ago.(man I am old) It worked awsome.
Are you putting gutter guard on there for the little critters??
I wonder how much a one inch syphon will do compared to a one inch drain. Can not wait for some updates.
Yeah i have to come up with something. I'll probably use a 2" piece of 1.5" piping and hot glue gutter guard to it.

Would putting a threaded/slip strainer on top of the main drain effect flow/air bubbles?
Why did you put the emergency drain on the other side of the tank and this is a sort of modification from beananimals drain? Except beananimal doesnt use a gate valve on the main drain. What were the measurements of where the holes are drilled on the tank and what do you plan on using for the return plumbing? Im still jealous;)
Wont be using a typical strainer. I'll most likely glue some mesh to the a piece of PVC and slip that into the stand pipe. Whatever it is, it will still be below the water line to keep the siphon. I put the other drain on the other side for symmetry i guess! - I hadnt really thought about it. Also if i ever decide to go with conventional overflows i'll have one on both sides. This plumbing method is the the Herbie method, not sure exactly what is involved with BeanAnimals but I think its just a glorified Herbie drain - same siphon principle. I'll have to check the placement of the drilled holes when I get home.
Here is a pic of the return plumbing... once again... very simple.

The t5's will be overdrive to around 105 watts I believe. And the Halide will be on a light mover (currently in use on my 75) so its spread will be over the whole tank. So i'll be around 565 total watts I believe - with the halide in a Lumenbright reflector I dont think i'll have any lighting issues.

I wouldnt bother with a skimmer as large as the A250 (i bought it for a 240 I never set up and ended up just putting it on here), time will tell if it is way too much skimmer for this tank. But I will try to make it work by overfeeding... alot if I have to :)

Skimmer glass: 3x sheets of .25" glass, 15x17.325". Im pretty sure those are the dimensions - leaving 1/8" on each side of the glass. Its a very basis sump. The display drains into the skimmer compartment, then under a baffle, over the middle section, and falls into the return section.

Sump level: If the return section of the sump is completely full, the sump will fill to about 1" below the black rail at the top of the tank when the return pump is shut off. I was worried about having such high baffles and using a siphon standpipe without overflow but my worries eased the first time I let it drain. Plenty of room!

By using such a large sump, it can easily handle the overflow, but it all depends on how you drill your tank. I think its an awesome setup and your DT dwarfs your 75gal sump. I am currently using a 75gal as my DT. Its RR though, so I will have to use my newer built, but older tank for my new setups sump. I live in an apartment on the second floor and I am worried that the tank might be too much for the floors, but I will make sure I place it over the floor joists properly. Since I live in an apartment I dont think I will be able to build my own stand though, which is dissapointing. Maybe I can but I think my G/F will be ****ed at all the sawdust and noise lol:)

Have you transfered any livestock over to your new tank yet? Do you have pictures of your current 75? Is this going to be an SPS dominant tank? The t5's if they are overdrived need to be cooled or they will blow, just giving you a headsup.

I love the concept of no over flow box with the herbie method. Interested to see what you use for a strainer. looks good so far.
