Judging by your daily ph increase, how many hrs is your growth period?

Hello, I have read about the increase in ph due to photosynthesis. Personally when my lights go on, a few hours later the ph increases from 8.0-8.1 until about an hour after lights out. This is very predictable and constant, and my corals are growing well. So if you feel your sps are growing nicely, how many hours per day do you observe this ph increase? Thanks

I keep ample fresh air in the room, usually with an open window so my pH never changes more than .2. It is usually ~8.20 in the morning to ~8.35 in the evening. Readings taken with my Neptune

Hi Kevin,

Hope all is well!

Your question got me thinking back to an article by Dana Riddle regarding Photoinhibition. I wonder if there is any correlation with photoinhibition and daily Ph movements. For example, when a coral is over lit and no longer performs photosynthesis (or a lesser amount of it) would the Ph of the tank not increase as it normally would? If you change your bulbs and blast your corals with intense amounts of PAR, would this cause the Ph to remain depressed? If all other parameters remain constant, could the change in light equate to a change in Ph? Just some food for thought :)

For your convenience, I have provided a link to the article below:

Now back to studying for the GMAT.

Warmest Regards,
James

My system is a little bit different in that I have a 250g rock bin outside in the sunlight. The tank gets direct sunlight which starts the pH upswing earlier than when the tank lights kick on.

So checking my Apex stats my pH starts to go up starting at 9 in the morning. The lights don't turn on till 5pm. The pH starts to drop between 8 and 10pm even though the lights don't start shutting down till 12:30am
