July Meeting Topic

Hey gang-

I am having trouble lining up a speaker for the July meeting. So I wanted to throw an option out for your consideration.

In the past I heard some talk about people wanting to have like a movie night, where we atched one of the fantastic reef/ocean tyope films that are available. So that would be an option...

The second option is actually an idea that I'm stealing from a Southern Cal club...they have club members do a short talk on a particular subject. They fit in three speakers each with a 1/2 hour presentation. We would need to find at least three speakers, and I am willing to be one of them.

If you have any ideas of your own I am certainly open to them.

My vote for "not care" is that both are fine with me and dont care which we do in particular.

I think we should have someone lecture on meathods to frag different types of coral (xenia, sps, lps, softies, shrooms, acros, zoas, ect) and different meathods of mounting frags.

I have a 50min video from an Eric Borneman fragging demo. The only problem with it is that Eric is the only one mic'd, and as people ask questions all you hear is Eric's responce.

I'll burn a copy of it to DVD and place it in the club library.

I rather hear some of our members talk about their area of "expertise." If I want to watch a movie - I'd rather stay home and watch one. Just my opinion.

Then who would be interested in speaking, and on what topic? I would gladly cover acrylic aquarium care and maintenance.

I'd love to hear Bruce speak about system design.

We have two experts in the club in Robert and Bruce. I'm sure that they would both provide valuable information.

I saw Bruce's presentation at the NVR meeting, and it was really interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It would also be great to hear Robert talk.

I agree with a no on the movie. I would rather hear from others and have an open discussion session with members on their various area of expertise.

I didn't mean to leave Robert out. I figured since Bruce had done a presentation at NVR he already had something prepared.

I would love to a hear a talk on System design and setup. I'm debating setting up another tank, and would really like some expert advice - and Bruce sounds like a good candidate if he is willing. If that was the topic I might be able to convince the wife to let me go and leave her at home with the baby (the reason I have not been to meetings the last few months).

It appears that a few of us are interested in system design as a topic. Could we invite this person too? I don't know anything about them, but if the photos are accurate, they might have something to add.

I have a hard time inviting someone to speak that we don't know anything about. Especially after making statements such as this;

Just imagine having a black tip reef shark hunting through your tank seeing a school of mollys (( origionally fresh water fish) salt dripped into salt water fish) swimming in a triangle, light glinting off their incredibly shiny scales and swooping in for a kill any time he's hungry! Its amazing!

Both of our resident experts are more than capable of producing tanks with the same quality as shown in the ad.

I understand (agree) entirely. I had just thought we might want to give him a nice warm MARS welcome & let him meet the crew so he knows whose territory he has ventured into.
