Jumbo Power Bills

Hi all, so one thing I never seen on here is the increase in the powerbills for the toys we have.

List them here

I live in CO and have a 450 gallon with 3 400W MH power bill went from 250 per month to 400 per month. :-)

Next project, my own power plant in the back yard. BTW is there a message board for power plants :-)

Actually I hope to see see a decrease in my power bill...

Before:
120G tank with MH, return pump, chiller, chiller feed pump, skimmer feed pump, DNW-150 skimmer, sump light for chaeto, pump for carbon filter and Phosphate reactor, fans, 4 powerheads.
180G with MH, return pump, Vortech MP40W x2, DNW-200 skimmer, feed pump for skimmer, pumps for carbon and phosphate reactors, several sump fans, sump light for chaeto.

After:
350G tank with T5 (24 x 54W running sequentially - not all on at he same time), Barracuda Gold return pump, Barracuda Gold Closed loop pump, Reeflo Orca 250 skimmer fed by an overflow, Vortech MP40W x2. Sump light for Chaeto.

We'll know in a few months... :)

I am still waiting to see the net impact of my recent upgrade. Historically, my electric bill is about $350/mo, 150 of which, I attribute to the tank. I am expecting a jump of about $50/mo.

Unfortunately, here in NE Ohio we get less sunny days than Seattle so solar is out of the question. Windmills are an eyesore. If I want to generate my own juice, I might have to buy a wood burning steam generator, lol!

Just curious mate, why did you choose a barracuda closed loop as opposed to a third vortech? There's a huge difference in power consumption there, and not much difference in flow.
