June Meeting

belated happy fathers day to all of you fathers out there!
was wondering if I could get a head count of people who plan on coming so I can start some planning. So those of you planning on coming for sure please post here and I hope to see a bunch of you Sunday, maybe I can talk Steve D into bringing his cornhole game.

Just to throw out a few things, I will be giving away door prizes, some are a few blue zoos that I have fraged and Ultimate Aquariums has matched a 20$ gift certificate which for those who are mathematically challenged like me that is 40$ !!! And oh yeah did I mention the food, not sure what we will have yet but it will be good, and one last thing, BEER  if you are old enough to partake and have a DD. :)

I'll be there Steve!!!! I may bring my wife as well if she doesn't have anything planned. It was nice meeting you at the shop last night. I am constantly impressed with how this hobby has transformed over the years. I never thought that my hometown could have a kick-a$$ store like Chris's and much less a forum and a meet!!!!! Just awesome. Sorry for the rant but its really exciting for me. :strooper: All these years I thought I was the only one around that would get all geeked out at the sight of wicked tanks or a home with 4 or 5 of them in it. I recently got all the old stuff out and started anew with my daughter (thanks to Chris) and its like old times but WAY better!!!! I wish that she could come with me to enjoy in the community but she will be with her dad....(not a good subject). Anyways I'll atleast be there and I am looking forward to meeting all. Did someone say beer??? Any requests. I can't come with nothing. Gimme something to bring...... Oh by the way...... If there will be water testing is there any way I could bring some of mine to test???? My Zoos and Shrooms are doing awesome (so is the CRAZY piece of frogspawn that I got last night!!!!) but I had a freak casualty that I'd like to see if maybe my tests were off????? I have a Red Sea test kit. (I just thought about it and its kinda old though...) I'm sorry for blabbing up the post. I don't talk this much in person.... Its the coffee and the Market.......c'mon DOW!

:bum:

welcome to the site Steve and you are more than welcome to bring some water to test, I have several test kits and I think Alex is bringing a few more and we might be able to talk Chris into bringing his phosphate kit. It was a pleasure to meet you and your wife last night and I'm looking forward to the meeting.

Great another Steve, what is that about 4. I think from now on we should call each other Steve. LOL
Welcome Steve, I will most prob ride with Steve so I guess that I will see you at Steve's and I do hope that Steve can make it so that we can get all the Steve's together.

Just to verify. It is at 2:00 right? Anything else we can bring to help out?

Yes around 2:00 should work. My address is 1209 Jeanette Ave. Vinton Va. 24179 for those that need to mapquest, but if your coming from 460 east or west turn onto gus Nics Blvd at Hardiees got through 4 stop lights and right after the 4th turn left onto N Marshall it's across the street from Best Insurance, if you go too far just go down to the next left and turn, Hallihurst... Jeanette will be the next street after Hallihurst, but if make the turn at N Marshall you go to the end of the block take a right and I'm the 3rd house on the right. If you get lost call 344 0506 Steve

Hey just wanted to give a big thanks to Mr & Mrs. Docs69 ... As allways you guys are awesome hosts..My kids had excellent time ...Thanks again brother ....

dito.
Had a blast. good food good people and a work out with the kids in the back yard.
Thank you.

Thanks all for a great time! Steve We loved your tanks and hospitality (and the Blue Zoo's!!!) Thanks guys for the RO education and the water testing. I started last night on bringing up the Cal. and Alk. But I think I'm gonna have to invest in those Salifert test kits!!! Those are awesome! Thanks Eric for the offer on the RO creation. Lemme know when you want to get into that!!! I'll get into the attic this evening also and see what i have in the way of an overflow / fuge supplies. i think i have everything i need. just have to get plumbing supplies. Again thanks to the GREAT hosts!!!

:spin3:

I can't speak for everyone but I had a blast, it was really nice, thanks to those who came and maybe next time for those who couldn't make it. I know several people offered opinions but nothing really cocreate, so???? after seeing the tank does it need to be torn down totally? I personally think I do need to just to cook the rock and make sure everything is clean from the start.
Shawn and his crew racked up yesterday :celeb3: :fish1:

Thanks for hosting steve, had fun, really enjoyed seeing another large setup, everytime I see another tank I get more Ideas for my future tank. It was good seeing some femiliar faces and some new ones.

As far as your tank woes, I dont have a clue but hey i am still new to all this reef stuff.

Doc - i though that possibly you could save yourself some agony and do a partial cook. Take out about 75lbs. or so and cook it (still leaving the tank up and going). Set up that 125 and get completly new sand for it and then put the cooked rock in there. See if that process works. Unless you were not planning on eventually keeping both tanks going.. ;{?

As far as sump contamination by the furnace....there are some other posts around the forums that suggest people having at least odd occurances in sumps or tanks that are located in the same room. About the only thing I can think of is that thick clear plastic drop cloth for painting. if you could some how fashion a divider curtain for at least that back section where the sump and fuge are from floor to ceiling (with an entrance slit or something) the clear plastic wouldn't block much light either so you could still see what you are doing when your working. It wouldn't be air tight but you could at least cut down on the major exposure. ? I dunno just a thought.
