This plant like thing came on a mail order frag I got some time ago, and now it has taken off. I am thinking I have an issue with Phosphates in the thank with a bloom like this.

I am addressing the water chemistry, but I do not know how to remove it from my tank. Does anyone know how to deal with a weed like this?

Thanks,

John

How big is the rock? If you don't have anything too special on it, just save what you and can, take out the rock, and scrub it clean.

A yellow or purple tang among others oughta solve the problem :D ! I would definitely move the rock into the sand bed until you figure it out though so it doesn't spread to other rocks.

My tangs and Angels don't eat those. I have to remove them manually. Regularly WC helps too.

looks like hair algae.. our sailfin tang and foxface do a great job of keeping our tanks clean of it. Beware, it can reach plague proportions faster than you think and can spread to other locations.

well it looks more like byrosis(sp?), coz hair algae doesn't look like a leaf like those in the pic. Anyways, my sea bunny took care of all the hair algae/byrosis, well basically all the green micro algae. try the bunny if the yellow tang or foxface doesn't like it, worth a try, right?

Hey John

I think that's bryopsis. One of the prettier pest algaes. Not much eats it. I wouldn't worry about a few small patches.

Yeah, looks like bryopis...From what I know there isn't much out there that eats it. Maybe a sea hair. I had a couple patches of it untill I started running Rowaphos....kind of just went away after that.

I added a Coral Beauty to the tank this week, and it is all gone only a few hints are left.

Doesn't look like Bryopsis to me. Looks like it is growing up from runners, like a caulerpa species. Check out the new growth on the edges.
