So I was going to my LFS to pick up my valentini puffer and Blue Spotted Jawfish that were on hold for me. He literally looked at me like I had two heads when I asked him some questions re: QT the BSJ. I was asking the pro/cons of providing him a bowl filled with sand versus the entire 10 gallon tank in substrate... b/c if I did have to medicate I would not want substrate in the tank. He had never heard of not medicating with substrate? He proposed that I put him in DT immediately as this would be to stressful on a BSJ who is not likely to get ich. I am still putting him in QT for observation as I never want ich again.
Then when I asked about the Velentini puffer... that I was not sure he was ready to come home yet.. b/c he was flashing against the bottom of the tank.. he said that is how they swim? and that it is not common for puffers to get ich... and his flashing is just normal behavior. I did not take the valentini puffer home. I will continue to watch this fish... but I am NOT experienced enough to deal with medication and to take a fish that I already think might be sick. Also he would not look at me... and one of the reasons I want a puffer is that I have heard they are so curious and always looking at you!
