Well It has been so cold in the house lately my tanks have been running at about 74.
So tonight I thew in an extra heater, and set a timer to turn it off (It does not have a thermostat on it)

Well the timmer went off and I forgot what it was for because I was making water as well.

Just as I was headed for bed I looked at the thermometer and it was at 95! I panicked, realised what I had done. And began to try and figure out what to do.

I had water made up for a water change tomorrow, so I drained enough water for the 5 G's I had made up. And added the cold new water in.

I know it's not good to switch temps like that but I don't know what's worse 95 or a quick shock whater temp down to normal.
So the water change took it down to 84. then I threw in bags of Ice and over the last 45 mins it's droped down to 80. I don't know where my black clown is or my cleaner shrimp.

My orange clown seems fine after the temp came down, my long nose hawk is hyperventaliting at the bottom of the tank. I hope he will pull through. But I fear the worst for my black clown :( He was PURE black.

I changed the carbon to deal with any toxic death tonight, and well see how things are going in the morning..

Update before work.
Still no sign of shrimp or Black Clown.

Orange clown is all white and lost most of her color.
The long nose is resting on a rock still breathing hard.

:(

Well after home update.

The black clown came out of somewhere and is acting like nothing happened. He looks great and seems to be doing well.

The orange clown got some of her color back and is still acting kinda strange but not too bad to make me worry.

The hawk is breathing normal, but looks like he still hurt, he sits on a rock and goes nowhere. When I fed he jumped off the rock ate dinner and then went right back to the rock.

Still no sign of the shrimp. I thank the hermits may have gotten him by now. :(

Good news All fish ate durring dinner tonight and thats a good sign.

Looks like I lost all my SPS though, and my nice white pulsing xenia ALL melted off which is not too bad because I could not keep control of that stuff and was wishing I had keep better control when I first put it in. I may be looking for a tiny stalk again soon.

So that's the update so far

Thanks for all your kind words, I swore I would never do something this stupid to my tank, but I guess it not if, but when.

Just as a reference if it happens again one of the side effects is a sharp reduction in dissolved Oxygen so at the same time of working the temperature down aeration has to be increased to recover the lost dissolved Oxygen.
