Just bought 48" Tek light

Ok so I just got a Tek 6x54 for a great deal it just needs a lil TLC... My reflectors are salted up some and not super shiny, and so were the bulbs.. It almost looked like a very thin layer of salt was on them because the previous owner didn't use a shield..

Anyways, I took out the bulbs because I plan on replacing them soon anyways, but for now I just wiped them down with a microfiber cloth.. As for the reflectors, they were a bit diff in the fact that they came clean but still not super shiny.. Can I use steel wool or something to clean these and get them the polished chrome look back..?? Not sure what these reflectors are made of, but I assume aluminum and I know I have some steel wool out in the garage just figured I'd ask incase there's an easier method out there..

Next question, the 48" Tek doesn't come with moonlights so I'm thinking of doing a lil DIY.. Is there a certain brand of LED's that I need, and where do I buy that power voltage thing that allows me to dim them..? I searched Radio Shack's website for "voltage power supply" but I don't believe I'm gettin the results I should be.. Thanks in advance..

There was a PAR test some where back that measured even corroded reflectors and found negligible difference in performance. I am going to try and quickly dig it up. So I would let them be.

I would look at somewhere like RapidLED for the moonlights. You can buy ones that work with an Apex or RK controller, as well as small stunner strips....not sure if they can dim though/

Most folks place Reefbrites on their Tek light for the led supplement. Does your model have fans on top?

Nope my model does not have the fans on top.. I been looking around and seen some cool DIY's where people use the 120mm LED fans, seems pretty straight forward except the wiring part.. Not really sure how they're tapping into a power source or connecting it to the wall because the parts they mention you need to buy, didnt seem to exist when I asked the radio shack guy lol.. =/

Just get a regular AC adapter with with an output of 7v 9v or 12v, better if you get the ones that have a switch to select the output, the output will determine the speed but depending on the fans anything between 7-12 v should be fine. Cut off the connector at the end, splice the cables and route them through one of the holes on the side of the fixture. Splice the cables on the fans and tie together all cables using your preferred method (butt connectors, wire nuts, etc).

Pretty sure I understand 100% what you're saying.. Once I get home I'll draw up a little schematic and get some more feedback.. Thanks for ur quick response! =)
