Hey everyone,

I recently purchased a 240g aquarium :D (a nice upgrade from the 29g I'm currently running) and am looking for some guidance on what equipment I will need. I have a while before I will be able to actually set it up so that gives me some time to get the equipment right. It's going to be a softie and zoas reef tank. I already have the sump and lights but I'll need to get everything else. Let me know if I'm missing anything below and if you have any recommendations on brands, size etc.

- Skimmer (as quiet as possible)
- Return Pump (also as quiet as possible)
- Circulation pumps
- RO/DI unit

Thanks!

kinda depends on your budget for the stuff you need

skimmer - internal or external? I am a fan of reef dynamics which falls into the more expensive side of skimmers. XRC350, xrc450 or xrc500.2 would all perform great and are external, my preferred method. they also have the ins line the ins350e or ins450 would work. Numerous other brands just depends on price and internal or external.

return pump - red dragon, laguna, hagen/fluval seas are all based off of the sane laguna block are are very quiet. Octopus offers the water blaster line and is also very quiet as well as possibly the sicce syncra if they have one large enough.... all internal pumps which are the quietest

circulation i use vortec mp60's on my tank. not silent but quieter vs many external pumps. numerous internal cheaper options out there, just depends on what you want to or I guess don't want to spend.

For the skimmer I have it set up to be an internal right now. I'm definitely going to be price conscious but at the same time I don't want to cheap out on a bad skimmer and have to replace it later.

For circulation pumps the vortec's are just too expensive right now. maybe down the road I'll upgrade but for now I'll need something cheaper.

I know that I won't need all the same equipment as an SPS or LPS tank but is there anything else needed?

Thanks for your help!
