Just bought a Canon I5IS - need tips

I just purchased a Canon I5IS and I'm looking for advice on how to get the best reef photos using this camera (especially macro shots). Any tips on how to most accurately set the white balance with this camera? Does the "Coffee Filter" method work? Any advice would be much appreciated.
