They look pretty cool, but Ive heard of to many glass heaters melt a tank. I would only use titanium heaters. Thats just my opinion.

they better not melt my tank...

shoot!!! lol

do yourself a favor and get some sort of controller...anything from a $50 ranco temp controller up to a $500 Apex...just something to kill the heaters when they eventually die. 90% of them die eventually.

FWIW I have these exact same heaters and they seems to be working great. I read somewhere not to fully submerge them if you can avoid it. I have 2 in my tank and one is completely submerged and the other I have the tip out of the water. Even the completely submergible heaters will last longer if you don't submerge the end and area where the cord enters the housing. Or so I've been told.

I have two of these and they've been great. I had a newb mishap where I forgot to turn off the ACjr when I drained my sump. Heard some crackling and realized the heater was still on. Water went in, glass broke, GFCI tripped. Removed the offending heater, cleaned up the white sand which went into the sump and bought another. Other than that, they've been great. I ordered a couple extra and use one in my QT.

Everyone always says to use a Titanium heater, but I can never get suggestions on a brand. What is everyone using that is Titanium?

I, too, bought 2 of these heaters for my upcoming 120 gallon new tank, so I will be following this thread to see the reviews...I will be using them with an AC jr so hopefully they will be good heaters.

I have one in my freshwater tank and love it. I purchased one when they first came out and it has been running like a champ with no problems.

I was thinking about testing one out on my reef with it plugged into a controller of course. But this unit by itself gets two thumbs up from me from a freshwater view atleast.

Thanks guys... Yeah a controller wouldn't be a stupid move-that's for sure!

I like the way these heaters look and the price is right.

They are sold out everywhere too.

I've used about a dozen or so titanium heaters over the years, all of them broke. One of them even let water into the seal and literally exploded underwater, it was like lightning struck the tank. There was a local store that had an issue where one was leaching heavy metals into their tank, including copper. Been using Jaeger glass heaters for 3 years now, not one issue.

Sure is, Jaegers are top of the line :)

fwiw though, most of my titanium heaters were Finnex, including the one that exploded. I hope their glass ones are better...

Quick update on mine. I just filled my new tank which is a 150g with a 55g sump so I have about 180g total. I have a 300w in the overflow box and a 200w in the sump. They're controlled with an apex so I don't have to worry about then blowing up (I hope!). They brought up the temp on the water from 67 to 79 in about 6hrs and have held them temp within a degree perfectly since. So far so good. The only comment I have is that either their or the apex thermometer are off by a couple degrees. My apex reads 79 and they read 77. I need to get a good glass thermometer to stick in the tank to figure out the real temp in there.

I had a titanium finnex heater with controller and the controller practically blew up when the fuse went. Hopefully their heaters are good quality, right now it's so hard to find a reliable heater.
