I put the clam on the sand for now, is that the best place? Do they like flow? Do you spot feed? with what?

all my params are ideal and my lighting is plenty for sure

You want to work him up high into the rockwork b/c they are the most light loving clams of all. They do not prefer alot of flow so tuck him in some rocks or something with all those tunzes in your tank :). Feed with phytoplankton, dt's is very good. I feed the tank, spot feeding is not as effective. Hope that helps :)

thanks, I use dt's but I wasn't sure if I should spot feed.

this is going to be tricky, the way I have my lights right now is a 10k on one side 14k in the middle and 20k on the other side (sps/clams --> lps --> softies). So the clam will need the most light (like sps) and little flow (unlike sps). I have to make a spot for him in a low flow part of the high intensity light.

Sounds like you have the correct environment.

My advise - research the general characteristics of an animal prior to purchase.

My general rules for all tridacna.
1. Never buy one less than 3" because I have feeding clams.
2. Always scrub the shells in freshwater and with a toothbrush to remove pyramid snails.

And from what I have been hearing from some distributers is ALOT of the clams coming in from vietnam right now are covered in pyramid snails and boring sponges. Scrub that puppy down if you havent already :)!

a4twenty, hope your advice works

I put it in the sand for know, not sure which rock I want to put it on, do you think it would be ok in the sand permanantly? It is under a 250 10k xm mh

he looks good so far :) it's hard to say about leaving him on he sand but with 250W 10k's he should be ok. you might want to give him a rock to sit on, so you can move him later if you need to.
