so i bought my first bta on monday. it was on a rock in my lfs, and they keep these under NO lights! i took him home and acclimated for about 2 hours. he looked great in the tank then he looked like crap. the mouth was open and you could see all the white from the inside, it look as if he was melting. yesterday he looked bad as well. today hes looking a lot better, i peeked into the tank early morning today while the lights were off and he was was extended with his bubble tips and looked great. i have the lights on now and he looks decent but not big at all, pretty small, but the tentacles are nice and full, but my tomato clown decided to host him! hes bugging the heck outa him. i doubt this guy has been feed at all, so im going to feed him and hope he perks up, i will try to post some pics.

well i just fed him a little piece of krill, and he didn't eat it, my clown was trying to feed him but he just let the krill float away, i guess i'll try another day

It may be trying to acclimate to your lights, I'm assuming you have better than NO lights on its tank? The clown hosting it while it acclimates could be aggravating it too, maybe put something like a strawberry basket over it until it's adjusted to your tank so the clown can't get it it.

Acclimating probably, like said before. In addition, mine won't take krill either, not after 5 yrs trying. Try small pieces of silverside, small piece of raw shrimp (deveined) or you can shoot some mysis shrimp with a turkey baster.

After you get him to start eating the mysis, I would switch it over to silversides or shrimp.

it looks really bad, the mouth is wide open and its all white, i think its time to toss, and yes its under 130w of pc in a 26g

It's common for them to expell water and fill with new water when they're acclimating to a new tank. They look horrible when they do this, but it's like they're doing internal water changes so the water on the inside matches the water on the outside.

Sometimes nems won't eat until they're settled and comfy.

If you go to http://www.karensroseanemones.com/ there's some pictures there of nems expelling waste/doing water changes as well as some that are disintegrating. Pictures are helpful to me, and maybe they will help you too.

Good luck!

that page has some great info, i think i'll give it a few more days and see what happens, how long do they normally take to expell this water? should have pics tomorrow night

They may stay deflated for a day or so. Not much longer. They won't eat in this state, but as soon as the inflate they should take food. Again, be patient, but watch careully. A dead nem will wreak havoc in a tank real quick.

Give it a little more time. If it starts falling apart, that's when I would remove it. I'd try to shield it from the clown too, just let it rest and acclimate to the tank without being harassed by the clown.

well ive had it for a week and no signs of improvement, its been on its face in the sand for hours and has not moved, should i take it out? place it somewhere? i think the mistake i made was not buying a healthy specimen in the first place, it didn't really look that well when i bought him, that, and he was under NO lights.

here is a pic from today, hes moving around the tank non stop, changes position every half hour or so

It's hard to tell from the picture but is it splitting? It certainly looks more elongated than round in this one picture, or is it just a rock in the way and its mouth is gaping as well? Is it eating at all?

awww
what a sad story.

this sounds just like mine tho!!
hahaha.

i bought a bta on sunday and when i put him in my tank, a whole appeared and some slime was floating above it.
but then in the morning when the lights were off, it looked fine.
i have a tomato clown as well, but mine hasn't hosted =(
its been doing good tho. it looks great!
i just tried to feed it some krill about 30 minutes ago and it didnt take it.

so far mine is doing okay but my tomato clown hasn't even touched the nem.
i realy hope it does eventualy.

im sorry that yours died =(

looks like i may be in the same boat as JC. i took my time, i was paitent, did research, etc. had all my water parameters looking good. so on sat. i finally found a place around here that had healthy looking BTA's. i acclimated mine via slow drip for about 3 hrs in the dark, placed it in the tank ever so gently. as my lights went from moon, to twilight, to day, i watched the BTA expand until it had it's full bubble tips. all looked good. my ONLY mistake was i moved it. when i did move it, it was attached to a piece of rubble, and it never lost it's grip. i figured it would readjust. and it did. but yesterday, it did not look so good. so i moved it back to it's original spot(i know, i know) and went out for about an hour and when i came back it looked FINE. there was some brown stuff coming out of it's mouth. well, since it WAS looking bad before and then was looking good, mine was probably getting rid of waste? getting rid of old water, like someone posted before?

anyway, this am, looked ok. found a nice place to hang out. still wont eat. and after i tried to feed it tonight, it shrank and shriveled. but i am not worried because of a lot of the posts i have read. i did do a lot of research prior to buying it. the water params are good, i got 260 pc lighting. looks like it is still adjusting.

The brown stuff was probably just the anemone expelling waste, yeah. It's still probably acclimating to your tank, sounds like it should be fine.
