Had this 3 inch crocea under t5 about 7 inches from light source. last night for some reason the electricity went off and when I woke up filter wasn't running and temp at 73.5. I would say the electricity was off for about 8 hours. Clam was detached from it's anchor and dead. I only had the clam for about a week.

Chem parameters just fine.

Any ideas if it was the lack of water movement, decrease in temp or a combo or the clam was not up to par when I got it. I must say though that it attached to the rock within a few hours and was always fully open extending it's mantle.

its hard to say what did it. most likely a combination of a few things.

Not to sound holier than thou- but what do you mean by dead? Just because it dropped its byssus doesnt mean it has died. I had a similar situation- when I was upgrading my tanks, I put all my livestock in rubbermaid trash can with circulation and a heater. The way the cord was pulling caused the heater to become un-submerged in one tub, and the heater burnt out. The temp was 71 in the mroning when I found it. The clam wasnt happy, dumped its byssus, and closed. I slowly warmed the water up, and a year later, clam still doing good.

At any rate, can you confirm the soft tissue is gone?

it stayed semi open and the tissue was pulled away from the shell. when i squeezed it, it wouldn't respond and went back to its semi open position, and it also wouldn't react to light. It was dead. I didn't like how the soft tissue looked as I could actually see it's insides. There is a piece of it that actually looks like a white worm with a of of segments but it was no worm.

Any way a lesson learned but not sure how to avoid that in the future if the electricity goes off and shuts everything down.
