Just got my 6105's-need suggestions

I've been using 2 mp40s, but one of the drysides is toast and the other is also a bit too noisy, so I decided to order two Tunzes 6105 to go along with my three modded 6025's. The 6025's are my only experience with Tunze, so I am pretty new to these.

I was currently running two 6025's off the back wall for added flow to the vortechs. My question is should I just place the 6105's on opposite sides of the tank like I had my vortechs? Should I use the wide flow housing? Which jumper? I also have a 7092 controller. What kind of settings should I use on this?

My tank is 60"x24"x24", it is sps dominant (many small frags right now), and has a 2" sandbed. Thanks for any input. My tank below:

You don't need to place them in the middle of the side panels. They will work just as well, and blend in much better, if you place them in the back corners towards the top. Have both aimed roughly towards their opposite corner.

These will be more than enough flow for your tank, so I would definitely start with the wide flow housings. You can start with the 24V jumpers just to see their full potential, but you may end up needing to use lower power jumpers if you start kicking up too much sand.

After you get a feel for the pumps plug them both into the 7092 and experiment with the pulse and wave modes. Page 19 of the manual will get you started on that.

Thanks Craig, so are you saying not to use the 6025's along with the 6105's? Are should I place all 4 along the back wall?

After reading a bit of the manual, I noticed I can make have the pumps on "inverse". Is that how most people run these?

The 6025's will be like a sneeze in a hurricane by comparison, you might be able to use them to target any remaining low flow areas behind rocks but they probably aren't needed.

I would use Inverse if you have one pump on each side. You will likely want to use pulse mode and not wave mode.

Thanks Roger. So I placed them on opposite sides on the back wall up in the corner. I am using the 18v jumper, wide flow housing, and have the 7092 on pulse mode.

Couple of issues: I hear a humming sound from the pumps as the go from the min. and max. Is this normal? I do not hear the sound when I just run the pump without the controller. I am also getting a vortex right at the front center of the tank. How do you suggest I get rid of this, because I am also getting some sand blowing around. Should I change housings?

I do have to be careful of placement because my rock pillars are drilled and sitting on acrylic rods and when I place the pump too directly at the pillars I get some movement. Plus it is too close and direct flow on the corals.

The hum from speed change is normal but will reduce in the first 2 weeks of operation as parts wear in. It will generally be about half as loud after 2-4 weeks.

I would try lowering the pumps a couple inches and angling them upwards first. If that does not work you could try 12V and you could try the narrow flow housing. Likely 18V and the narrow flow is what is ideal for the tank dimensions. You could also try a lower top end speed on the controller.
