Hey All,

I just got my first octopus! He is in a breeder box in my 29gal. He has already eaten a silverslide.

BTW does anyone know what species is? It looks like bimac to me.

Where did you find this lovely specimen? Im interested in octos but cant find em anywhere. One turned up at my local lfs but was sold right away. Have you had any problems with inking?

They are great! I highly recommend gettion one. Just make sure you know the specilized care requirments before getting one.

bimac. 29g is fine for a baby. full size you will need about 90g. i have mine in a 90 now. and its head is about the size of a small egg.

actually noo, when the time comes to switch him to a larger tank(WHICH I HOPE YOU INTEND ON DOING)he most likely will get stressed, and that will kill him in no time!!!!

no that wont kill him lmao. let him get into a zip lock container or tuperware and move him over... thats not gonna bother it.

A beautiful bimac I must say...gorgeous.

Too often they starve as people only feed them the clams from octopets.com. Those are meant as a starter food, not for their life. When they are small one of the best foods for them is amphipods.

When its time to move, make sure its at least a 55 gallon tank.

Good luck, but be wary of their short lifespans...They live fast and die young.

So far I am feeding it pellets, live crayfish(as stimulation) and silverslides. What else should I feed it?

thanks,
Bill

They like amphipods as babies.

Watch out for crabs and crayfish, as if they are too large and the octopus too small the octopus could get injured or killed.

Also shrimp are a good food.
