Just got my squamosa. Any advice?

I just picked up a tank raised squamose from my LFS store last night. Cool little guy. Already opened up nice and big and looking good. He's definetly on the smaller side. Probably around 3" or so. He's in my 65 gallon under 150W MH and PC's, sitting in the sand. Being this little, will I need to bowl feed him, if so what's the proper method since I've only heard of this, or will he be fine getting what he needs from the light? Any other advice or suggestions? This is my second clam. My crocea died a few days ago after a failed attempt to relocate him, that must have tore his foot or something. :( Thanks.

more than a little debate about this, but my view is it should be fine, if left undisturbed, if all else (parameters, predators, etc.) in your tank is well- squamosas and derasas like to bounce around a bit before they settle. I used to feed DT's phyto but stopped without noticing much difference either way- sorry about your crocea.

i believe your clam is closed to the time where it can be fine without supplimental feedings. however, his mantle is not very big, and im not sure how deep a 65 is, but he may need some feedings. i have a crocea who is maybe 3.5. had it for a month and i havent needed to feed. ive fed like 3 times, but not major. mine is also right under the halide.
i was looking at a green squamosa yesterday for 45. but i only have a 40 gallon and i dont know if i eventualy want a foot long clam in there taking up the little sand space that i have.
what do you have to feed the clam? live phyto is better than the spray-dried stuff.

All I have is Kents Phytomax. That's why I was trying to see if I needed to invest in some DT's phyto or some other live stuff.

Definately give the DT a try. I switched from using Kent's and noticed an improvement in my corals, etc within a week.
