Well I switched from 4x65 power compacts to 4 t5's (actually only 2 since the other 2 bulbs were on back order and come in this week). With only 2 bulbs running, it is soooo much brighter than the old setup. I highly recommend them to anyone

I found an awesome source for cheap replacement bulbs of all types, on ebay look up aquarium factory... I got an extra 65wpc bulb for 8 bucks, with shipping came out to $17 as opposed to $40 at a LFS....
Very fast shipping and accurate order...
Anyways i was happy.....

hey, dont forget to SLOWLY acclimate them, either by reduced photo- or screening. i bleached out an absolutely beautiful red brain even at the bottom,in half a days time. took a few months to fully recover.

this is what Im planning on doing, let me know what u think.

right now I have 2 bulbs set up an aquasun (11k) and super actinic and the way my canopy is that it has a hinge in the middle of it. well Ive got 2 bulb sets on the back half and 2 on the front half that flip up.
So on the back half I just have the aquasun pointed at the tank and the actinic flipped up for about a week. then ill close the lid and both bulbs will run for another week. by then I should get my 2 blue+ bulbs that were on back order. Then I will install the remaining bulbs and keep the lid fliped open for a week so just the aquasun and the blue+ will shine on the tank and then after a week Ill close the lid so the other 2 bulbs(another blue+ and the actinic from before) will shine in the tank ...... I dont know if u got all that ...... I ramble a bit sometimes

did you get a retrokit or did you get a complete setup and hang it in your hood? if you got the retrokit was it difficult to assemble?

I got the retro and no it wasnt hard at all, the only thing that took me long was that I am very picky about how I run wiring and I like to use cable ties to keep all my wires nice and neat. I see that ur in miami, if u ever get them Id be more than happy to help u put them in.
