Just lost my McCosker's to jumping

Sigh, some days just don't work out well. I was doing some routine maintenance on my DT and naturally I took off the cover. At some point during my cleaning, my McCosker's jumped out behind the tank. I found him when he was still wet and breathing a bit, but he had been out for a while. He died within the next 15 minutes. Has this happened to anyone else? I'm upset about this, as he was one of my favorite fish and he would eat from my hand.

It sucks when that happens. I have had one jump out when I had a larger tank. No idea why.

They excel in jumping. Before I knew better, I had one jump through egg crate and on to the floor. I found him dried when I got home from work.

Sorry for your loss. I find myself keeping my DIY screen top on all the time, unless I'm cleaning or feeding, which means I'm standing right over the top of the tank.

I lost a beautiful lineatus in a fully enclosed hood, he jumped onto the euro bracing and never got back into the water, such a crummy way to lose a fish. Sorry for your loss.

Yeah, fairy and flasher wrasses DO jump. Not IF but WHEN. The mesh tops work well though as long as the holes are 1/4 inch. Sorry for your loss.

Thanks for the condolences. I just feel awful about the loss. Just to be clear I do have a top to the tank. I removed it for some in tank cleaning and the wrasse jumped and I didn't notice until it was too late. I'd never run an open top tank under any circumstances.

yikes!! I am always afraid this will happen to me because I have to take the tops off to go up and over the dang tank supports. Sorry for your loss probably better to keep he lid on best you can while cleaning.
