just making sure i understand phosban reactors correctly

basically phosban = fuge, so phosban takes away what the chaeto wants, so if I add a phosban reactor I can expect to get rid of the chaeto

do I understand that correctly?

IM thinking about getting rid of the chaeto and just getting a phosban reactor instead

Phosban removes Phosphate, Cheato removes Nitrates or Nitrites. There is a reactor for that too and it uses some kind of sulfur mixture...

Spend the $30 and get a phosban reactor (or better yet 2- one for phosban, one for carbon) Sticking them in the media bags suck.

One for carbon, one for phosban.

D. French...I'm also using seachem but if I'm not mistaken it leaches back in. I'm just using up the rest of what I had

150g for 100 gal if I'm not mistaken. It's suposed to last 4 months...

I have one TLF with 1/3 carbon then 1/3 phosban (250g) then 1/3 carbon on a 150gal system...

it does leach back in if you don't rinse it, but like you i'm just using up what i got. I've been switching back and forth from phosban(iron oxide) to phosguard(aluminum oxide). Phosphates are supposed to bond to aluminum oxide the best but if not rinsed well and leaches back into tank it can irritate corals causing them to close up or even burn them.

Chaetomorpha Algae removes both phosphates and nitrates from the water. To increase the amount of nutrients this algae exports, use moderate to high lighting and keep it in an area of high water flow. It should ideally be tumbled in an algae filter

Mangroves absorb nutrients from the water in order to grow, and help lower nitrates and phosphates in the aquarium. They export the unneeded nutrients and excess salt through their leaves. It is important for nutrient control in the aquarium, that when leaves are dropped from the plant that they are not allowed to decay in the aquarium.

if you have a sump or hang on fuge the natural way is best, i have a small hang on fuge with 2 red mangroves and chaeto cause my stand has no room underneath for a sump and tank is not reef ready.
