Getting it set up tonight and such. However the LFS guy was telling me I don't need a heater? Is this true. He was leading me to believe the lights will heat the tank pretty much itself.

Grats on a new tank.

I guess you'll have to find out where the temp is after having it set up for a few days...but I'd guess a heater will probably come in handy.

It all depends on your system and where you live. Since you're in Neb I would go for the heater, it will keep your temps stable.

But run it for a few days, see what the average temp is at various times throughout the day. I don't have a heater in my tank, and my temps stay between 78-80. I have my AC set at keep the room at a constant 75 degrees and I live in S. Florida.

I live in WI and definately need a heater in my BC29 especially during the winter months. I guess my thoughts on the "lights will heat your tank" are this: Will your lights be on for 24 hours?

I keep my tank at 78F and have noticed my heater on even with the lights. One of the alleged benefits of the vented and fanned hood is supposed to be the reduction in unwanted heat from the lights.

Anyway it is just my opinion and getting a small heater that can be stuffed in that first chamber really is pretty inexpensive, all I can say is try it without and see what flucuations you get.

And have a great time with it!
