Hi Tim,
I do appreciate your concern as I have also been unsure about the proper temp for these guys. I currently have my tank set at 72 F (about 22 C). I emailed Pete Giwojna at Ocean Riders about this issue, and he told me that their H. Ingens broodstock originated from the tropiccal Pacific (Honduras and El Salvador). He also stated that the H. ingens I have are four generations removed from this original broodstock, with all of their generations having been reared at 75 F. He also warned me not to let the temp get below 68 F (about 20 C) as it wold be too cold for them.
I know other people recommend 68 F for H. ingens, but Pete claimed that this was a very bad idea for this strain of H. ingens since the stock originated in the tropics.
Do you have any idea what temperature Simply Seahorses in the UK keeps their Ingens at? (Just figured you are closer to England then I am...lol!) I know you have a lot of experience with seahorses....have you kept H. ingens at a lower temp?
Thanks for your thoughts!
Tom
