Here's my sunset montipora when I blow water on it and all the polyps retract. Otherwise, the green polyps are always extended so far I can't see the red base.

I got this at the last WCR swap. I forget who it was from, but it was an orange zoa.

Cbrennan4,
this was the one you said might be interesting to see how it opens & colors up. Any idea what it is?

Here's the superman monti I got from WCR. From INOKEA (Heactor), I think.

Purple haze monti from Mary. Looks more light blue, than the blue-purple in the picture.

That's the superman! Nice :)

I definitely like the superman monti.

And the "reverse one"... the mystic monti I have.

I grew that piece out from Colin giving me his frag from last year's NCRC Swap at DC. I couldn't make it. But the mystic monti's grown great in my tank.

Yes, nice superman. And mystic sunset.

I have a preference for the reverse sunset ("sunrise") monti over the sunset. A couple years ago Bob, Jake and I split a huge colony from Diamonds in the Reef and it did great in my tank, and somehow managed to survive all the trials tribulations up to and including my move. It's coloring back up nicely and I posted a recent pic. The polyps should get more orangey red and the base greener.

I am also enjoying the mystic sunset frag I got from the swap via Ron. It hasn't fully adjusting to my lighting yet. I find the 3 or 4 different colored tentacles per polyp interesting and when it's in good condition, it makes for marvelous macro fodder. :)

Oh, and the purple haze I got from the swap via Mary is looking awesome. Offhand I'm guessing it's in more light, or mh v. t5, and more flow than it was, as the purple has intensified, as has the polyp extension. It appears to be growing robustly and thickening.

Would love a chunk of reverse sunset Monti to grow out in my prop tank. Been busy the last few weeks, but need to set up before summer starts... :)

I'd frag my sunset Monti for one of our raffle frag prizes... but it's encrusted only on my main rock. I could pry off the frag plug (maybe)...

Anyone know why polyps for montis sticks out more or less?

My sunset Monti has excessive extension.

Lack of light? Lack of food? Too much water flow?

I'd guess it wants more light. It would also guess it's not suffering from excessive flow with that extension. I'm also not sure that's a real problem. Maybe just a sign of a tweak needed?

My sunset was a fast growing, rapid color changer relatively speaking. As such possibly more metabolically demanding and thus more light is a better thing?
