the clam look like a million bucks! it looks better than ever. Its a baby maxima for the record.

Yes, I have to admit that after we spot fed our baby Maxima for the first time he colored up real nice and was far more active. Here's a picture of the top half of a plastic water bottle we used to segregate the space around the Maxima so it had exclusive access to the phytoplankton. After placing the plasic bottle over the clam we then injected phyto into the top and watched the green cloud dissipate inside as the clam filtered out the phyto. Was great to watch!

I didn't know it could choke, now i'm all nervous....
but yes...it colored up a lot and just looked better over all. I will continue to do this without a doubt.

maybe i should try to do that with my max.
I just pour 2 capful of phyto into the tank while the skimmer is off.

They will likely die if you do not feed them with phtyo. I have seen some that lived, but not many. Heavy fish feeding or large tank doses of phyto can work too.
They need phyto until they are 3" or so.
I keep mine in a disposable food container that is square and about 2" high. I lift it out and pour some phyto in. It is gone in 20 minutes. I do this 5 times per week, although 2 or 3 would probably be enough. The container can be somewhat unsightly in the tank though.
Feeding outside of the tank is the best way IMO. I have not lost a baby maxima since I started this.

I was wondering about this spot feeding. I am going to be feeding two maximas about 2.5" using the inverted bottle thing. Can anybody tell me how much dt's to put in the bottle with the clam?
Something like; If the bottle holds 8oz and the clam is 2", insert 3cc of dt's and leave covered for 30 minutes.
These are just numbers I made up. Hopefully somebody has a good formula for this.

DT's is just the brand. as long as you're feeding them live phyto you're all set.

DT,s is a brand name of a type of photo, it is refrigerated and thus is suppose to be kept alive. It should be avaible at your local fish store. If you "click on sponsors at top of reef central screen- I believe DT's is there.

DT,s is live phydo- marinesnow,dead. I can only say that for my clams, DT's is the best product I have used.
