Just starting my first tank (hopefully)

Hey all,

I'm looking to start my first reef tank. I am currently looking at Nanos and Aquapods for $ and space reasons.

I've been in Sarasota all my life and just graduated from UF, and am currently working in Venice. Now that I'm settling somewhat I'd like to get going with the reef tank :)

I'm completely new to the hobby. I've been reading many many many forums so I've got a pretty good idea of what's involved. If anyone happens to have any surplus stuff they'd like to pawn off, let me know as money's pretty tight right now so I'd like to go used if possible.

Also, any thoughts on Seascape? They've been here forever and I've always been impressed with their selection, but how is their stuf from an aquarist's point of view?

I'd recommend you get this book,Natural reef Aquariums [/B]

thanks Agu! well I've been doing TONS of reading and was planning on keeping the tank pretty natural already (filtering using LR and macroalgae and the like) but i'll check that book out sometime.

Welcome to the boards. I'm new here also and they have been very helpful. I just started a 90 gallon reef. Good luck and welcome to the addiction.:D

You asked about a LFS (Local Fish Store). If you go to the store, ask for their advice, and gain useful knowledge, it's only fair to the store to buy product from them.

However, if you do your own homework, research available products, and decide what you want, why pay up to 100% more ? Online vendors are a lot cheaper if you know what you need. The for sale forums on RC are even more competitive ( but as in any online transaction be careful)

That said, I prefer to buy livestock locally, I want to see what I'm buying. I'd rather not get into the "this store is superior" thing. I've seen it get ugly too often in other club forums. Rather I'd suggest you visit every local vendor, view their offerings, talk with the staff, and you'll quickly find the store that works for you.
