Just starting out...

To say that I am an amateur would be a gross understatement, at this point I am still trying to figure out the terminology and what does what. For Christmas, my wife and mother went in on a D3300 bundle, so I am still trying to get familiar with it. I'm reading as much as I can put can't for the life of me to even get it to take a picture within the tank using the 55-200mm lense that came with it (although, from what I understand really can't be used in this application?)

So far I don't have anything but the budle, I did order a tripod but don't plan on buying any additional equipment for awhile so I am stuck using what I have...maybe once these Christmas bills get taken care of :)

Currently, the tank has a bit of a haze to it but I am finding it very difficult to get a clear picture. Most of them look like this as I fumble, read, fumble, read, and fumble through taking pictures.

But I did manage to get a few clear ones, I'm also using an older version of Photoshop and tried to edit them to try to get close to their normal colors. Still a bit off but I got tired of trying for now :)

Thanks! Its certainly a learning process for sure, looking forward to getting more equipment as well!

you might consider getting some extension tubes. They're about $100 but it will allow you focus closer to your subject with the same lens.

I have bought tubes for much cheaper. Remember, with macro photography, auto anything is not needed. Manual focus is king and all you need is a set of tubes that stack, but no connection points are needed, all you need is for the lens to physically be further away from the sensor.

You can buy some cheap ones for under $30 on ebay. OP, keep in mind, tubes do not have ANY glass elements in them. TC's do.
