No, its sitting no the substrate at the bottom of the tank (heh). I think its a sponge...which would be really unhealthy for the animal...but it sure is a cool shot!
Sorry for not replying earlier have had a mental few weeks.
The coral is a Montipora danae and yes the coral was taken out of the water for the photo. I was taking a photo for a positive Id as I wasn't 100% that my id was correct. As I was taking the photo the crab literally walked from underneath the coral and just sat there. What a poser !!!!!
The crab actually lives in an Acro and as soon as this coral was introduced it made its way over to it. He began to clean this coral which was very noticible around the edges. Over a period of a few days more polyp extension was visable were he had cleaned.

For the serious photographers out their, how would you improve the photo ?. Tecnique or enhancements. I like to think I am a decent photographer but I am not really. I like to play and every now and then i get a decent photo.

Well if you want me to nit-pick, it might have been better if you bumped your aperture down to f/11 or so. The left eye of the crab is slightly out of focus. Or you could have just focused on that eye instead of the claws to begin with. Easy to say on the computer, f/8 or f/11 is a tough call in the heat of the moment. I would have taken it the same way most likely.

You still can't sharpen that eye though. Not without manually redrawing it. I think the black and white version is pretty cool.

ficlefins your ' fooling around ' has definately improved the original picture and although i like non edited photo's that is a definate improvement. The third picture is fantastic. I really like that.
