My brother is looking to start up a reef and was wondering if anyone was in thinking of upgrading or just getting out of the hobby. I think he wants something over 125 and ideally reef ready and with all the things needed to start up and go.
Thanks.

+1. Right now on craigslist in my area there are great deals all of the time. I have picked up a few tank and equiptment for next to nothing.

++1. I just got a great deal on a 150gal on craigslist. Only paid about 10% of what I would've paid retail. And I saw at least three more that if not for the fiance would've come home with me too!

i have a 180 gallon reef. I know how fast prices can add up. again this is for my brother that also takes care of the 180 gallon.

Just remember the aquarium itself is one of the "cheaper" things that goes along with the whole set up!!!

AMEN! Good night! This is one of those times where being the kind of guy that jumps into a project without reading the directions is really killing me!:o

Here I thought that changing over from fresh to saltwater wouldn't be "that big of a deal". (i.e. Buy a new filter, change the sand, buy some salt, and pay for slightly more expensive fish then PRESTO, your done... or not. :D )

Boy, everytime I tell my wife we have to buy "just one more thing" I think I'm going to get vaporized by her glare...

No, not me. I certainly apologize if it came across that way. I was replying to the post that said that the aquarium was one of the cheaper things in the hobby and stating that - I - jumped into the hobby.

From your current tanks in your profile it looks like you are a seasoned vet. I'm just the lowest ranking cannon fodder here.

I don't know if I have anything to say that would be helpful. I've checked craigslist in every city that I would be willing to drive to on a long weekend. I've looked in freecycle.org and kijiji.com for anything aquarium related and googled for any clubs in my area to see if there are any locals that have equip/live rock/etc... and in my case, advice, that would be useful for me setting up my new tank.

If you've already tried these avenues then I'm not sure what the next step is. If you find something let me know!!!!

pray to the aquarium gods! haha Good things come to those who wait is what my patient boyfriend tells me when I'm being impatient. I say what around a few weeks and you'll find just the right one. =]
