Sorry, I'm still learning, but... I need some feedback to make sure I understand.


baking soda(sodium bicarbinate), will raise alkalinity, and lower ph.

washing soda(sodium carbinate), will raise ph without affecting alkalinity.

the ph drop by using baking soda is temporary. (how long?)

are these right?

baking soda and washing soda will both raise alkalinity.

Washing soda has a very high ph and will raise your ph.
Baking soda will raise your ph slightly if you are < ~8.1
Baking soda will lower your ph slightly if you are > ~8.1
 
Yes that right i tryed it in my fresh water tank one time and had to do a large water change to get it back down. But i guess that in a salt water tank with a ph of 8.2 it would lower the ph sorry.
