Just thought I would update this thread. I've had my blueface for a little over two years now. Still thriving & growing. About 5-5 1/2" now & very fat. Notice the spot is missing on the dorsal completely now. Anybody else ever seen an adult missing the dorsal spot???
Here is my update, also with no spot. It's really hard to get a good non-flash photo of this guy. He's always out, just camera shy. The colors are very bright and bold in person.
I will note that he is much slower growing than the Emperor. Besides the Hawk, he's the smallest fish in the tank, but won't stand down to any others.
Wow very interesting documentation on these fish. I think you guys might be on to something. Maybe they dont develop the dorsal spot in captivity when acquired in there juvenile stage. I think this is one way of maybe determining how long and what stage a blueface was acquired. Very interesting none the less. Now thinking of acquring a juvenile as Im sure is very rewarding to see them change from juvenile to there adult transformation. Thanks
