hello, I'm wondering could this able to replace ceramic ring in my sump?
Does anyone of you know about this product and actually use it? Need some feedback as I couldn't found any through the web. Below are the description of the product.

Kaldnes K2 Micro Biological Filter Media has been designed to provide the best possible habitat for both young and mature beneficial bacterial colonies. Maturing the K2 bio-media is important because a delicate eco-system is naturally developing for the bacteria involved in the nitrification process. They are great for freshwater and saltwater

How it works

Maturing the Kaldnes Media bio-media is important because a delicate eco-system is naturally developing for the bacteria involved in the nitrification process. Kaldnes Media provides the maximum active surface area for the bacteria to colonise, more than other types of static media. It is this process which removes harmful ammonia and nitrite from the water.

How it is different to other media

As the Kaldnes Media moves within the filter, it causes the old dead bacteria on the outside to be displaced. This makes space for new younger heavier feeding bacteria to rapidly colonise. Within the wheel is a protected surface which enables colonies of bacteria to naturally follow their lifecycle, of maturing, dying and then fueling the latter stages of the nitrification cycle. Kaldnes Media has been designed to provide the best possible habitat for both young and mature beneficial bacterial colonies.

What is meant by 'self cleaning'?

Unlike foam, matting, or other forms of static filtration media, the Kaldnes Media is designed to move freely within your filter. The constant chaotic movement of the air from your pump, causes the media to self clean and thus requires no maintenance. This allows the filter to reach optimum effectiveness without the disturbance of periodic cleaning, avoiding unnecessary loss of bacteria within the filter.

I haven't heard of the K2 media, but the K1 media has been used by high-end Koi keepers and water treatment facilities for years. It seems to do the trick.

I don't know how well it would work in a salt-water environment. From what I recall, it is generally used in a fluidized filter system and because it is constantly in motion, the media is constantly bumping against each other and in theory, knocking off detrius, hence the self-cleaning action. I would think that you would need a lot of it to achieve the same results as a sump full of LR, but I could be wrong.

From my point of view, I think K1, K2 and K3 is only different in term of size.

K1 - 10mm X 7mm or .39in X .28in - support about 35 pounds of fish per 2 cubic feet
K2 - 11mm X 7mm or .43in X .28in - Support about 42 pounds of fish per 2 cubic feet
K3 - 25mm X 12mm or .98in X .47in - Support about 33 pounds of fish per 2 cubic feet
