Kalk dosing

Hey guys had a kalk question. Do think it's ok to dose 1/4 teaspoon of kalk water to a BC 29 to keep my calcium up? Currently have sps LPS and a clam and I'm worried about the calcium. So I was thinking a 1/4 teaspoon and monitoring ph so as not to shock the system

So are you saying a 1/4 teaspoon of powder to 1 gallon of water mixture? If so I don't see why not, I use a full teaspoon in my gallon mixture in my 28 gallon tank and spread that out over a week add top off. Zoas and LPS and fish in my tank.

Not to hijack, I have a 28g as well. I have a 5g auto top of container. So I should add roughly 5 teaspoons of calc to my full container or RO/DI top off water, right? Been worried about the calculations being off.

Amount is always a personal preference but I've read you can go as high as 2 teaspoons per gallon of water depending on your tank's needs.

Ok my next question is i manually top off about a half gallon a day for evaporation. With the teaspoon per gallon should I dump in that much at a time or have plain rodi and add the kalk as needed to the water?

No! Kalk needs to be added slowly over time not in a single dose. People added to their ATO so as to dose over time.

Ok how can I accomplish what I want with out a ato?

Unless you stand around your tank all day long manually dosing it it is really not practical to use kalkwasser without some form of doser, either through an ATO or a dosing pump. If you dump all the top off into the tank at once or even twice a day the pH jump is going to be hard on your livestock.

Look up the BRS Kalkwasser Drip on youtube.

It's a simple and super effective way to accomplish exactly what you're asking

You can rig up a drip doser, Kent used to make a gallon size where you could adjust a drip. For a small tank it would work. I don't know if they still sell them but easy to DYI
