Hi, how often do you change the kalk in your reactor or how do you know when to add more. I have a GEO reactor.
Thanks.

I've just started running the same one after just using a top off res. filled with limewater. Dosing kalk keeps my Ph up from approx 7.8 to 8.2. I plan on seeing a drop in pH when it's time to add powder.

test the effluent it should be around 12 ph when its fresh if it starts to drop in the low 11 range I would add kalk..

What exactly is the effluent I have heard the term I am assuming that its what is left in the bottom of the container? if so how do you test it?

no, its the water dripping out of the reactor.. after the reactor turns on the stirrer and the kalk settles back to the bottom test the ph of the clear liquid going into your sump..

Can this be tested with the water coming out of ato also? or is that a different situation. Not to high jack this thread but also with using the kalk in the ato should it be stirred every so often?

No, still reservoirs should never be stirred. That will add CO2 to the solution and cause even more precipitation. Saturated kalk can remain (mostly) potent for weeks if you keep a lid on the container.

Kalk reactors are different, the RO/DI water is fed in and mixed occasionally before getting dosed into the tank. A still reservoir is already mixed.

Hope that helps.

PS: Personally I just add pre-stirred mixed kalk into the ATO reservoir. Any extra kalk settles at the bottom, the saturated limewater goes into the tank.

Thanks that is what I was looking for I am new to this kalk and trying to learn all that i can.
