Kalk in ATO help

I just purchased a tunze osmolator 3155 and plan on dosing Kalk with it. My question how much Kalk per gallon should I start with? I will be dosing a 125 with 55 sump mixed reef.

you need to start low, and increase as you need to. i would test the tank's alk, then 5g bucket with 1 teaspoon of kalk per gallon.. test 24 hours later and if your alk drops then add more kalk. if it raises the lower to less kalk. you should watch you alk everyday for a week or so and test at least once a week to make sure it doesnt drift up or down. also watch out when the seasons change and your evap changes. your evaporation pretty much controlls how much kalk water your tank is getting. i didnt check once and my tank got to 16 dkh.

Hmm.... i generally have 2-4 inches of kalk in the bottom of my reservoir which is a 10 gallon tank. never have thought about over dosing kalk.

i guess it could play into a factor on a small setup, but if you have a 125 display and 55 sump you should not see that high of a rise from your kalk being 1 tsp per gallon vs 2-3 tsp per gallon...once the kalk reservoir solution is saturated the rest of the poweder will stay on the bottom till the level drops and it will go into solution.

have you tried adding vinegar to your kalk, there will be less kalk at the bottom.

Vinegar, and Heating or pressure in the ato chamber will all allow it to super saturate or but why?
dump like a half gallon of powdered lime into the 5 gallon ato and let it settle out, that way you dont have to keep refilling it as often. If he had a small tank i could see where the evap rate wouldnt allow enough kalk to be useful, but with 125+ gallons of water his buffering capacity is in the water already the kalk will help stabilize ph, much better ways to raise ph if thats the goal.

when my 90g was loaded with sps and 500w of MH, i had to supersaturate 3tsp per gallon of kalk with 15ml of vinegar per gallon, and i needed more. it all depends on what your tank needs. A kalk reactor could not keep up with the demand.
