Kalk-ing

I know its designed to add calcium to the tank. Do I need to buy a reactor or can you mix and drip kalk into your tank?

Any information is appreciated.

It add both Ca and Alk in a balanced proportion. You can either drip or reactor, although dripping gives you the ability to control the saturation. You may not want full strength. My pH is running around 8.4 right now so I think I need to dial it back for the summer.

Step one: make ro/di water
Step two: add kalk and stir (anywhere up to 3tsp per gallon)
Step three: cover and wait until clear (overnight)
Step four: drip in tank

Precautions - make sure your drip can't open up. Accidental kalk overdose can result in total death from pH spike (worst) or snowstorm (not so bad).

I have about 120 total gallons, and keep about 5 gallons of kalk in the topoff. Even if all 5 gallons pumped in, I'd only have a slight snowstorm.

Depends on your rate of evaporation and drip. I use about 1.5 - 2G a day, so about every other day... I'll probably automate it at some point if I can find a 10G container that fits under my sump stand. Right now I use a bucket...

I use a PM kalk reactor to drip kalk, and i drip 6 times a day at 15 minute times. Keeps my calcium level at 450 and my alk at 9. When i notice my alk going down from that level its usually time to change my kalk, but now my sps are growing faster so i will either add alk or drip more.
