kalk vs. calcium supplement

Is the kalkwasser mix that is used to drip different than the stuff used to build calcium? For example, I recently bought "Reef, advantage calcium" from Seachem, in order to build my calcium level to 400ppm. It is in powder form. Im just wondering if I can dissolve the kalkwasser mix (used for dripping) into a cup of RO/DI water to raise calcium instead of the Seachem stuff.....or is the kalkwasser mix only used for dripping? Thanks for any help..-jeff

I'm not an expert but I believe them to be two different kinds of calcium. I know Kalkwasser is Calcium Hydroxide. I was always told to use two part additive to raise calcium and alkalinity and drip Kalk to maintain levels.

Usually, you would use calcium suppliments to increase calcium and limewater to maintain it. If you dump a cup of saturated limewater into your tank, you may get a pH spike. Check out the chemistry forums. Dr. Farley will be more than happy to answer any of your questions, and there is TONS of info in limewater and calcium suppliments.
