Kallawasser Stirrer

I have one and I have never had to worry about my calc after setting the number that I had wanted. I ran my topoff throught it and used a float valve in the sump. Cheap and easy. If you need the kalk powder I have a huge tub for sale.

Hi Greg
This is just my opinion, I dripped 5 gallons of Kalk every night in my 120 and could never get the calcium where i wanted it. Ph and Kh were good . I then used a calcium reactor and calcium was good, but PH dropped(due to co2). So in order to raise my ph I started driping kalk again!!!! Are you following this because I am confused. All kidding aside I could not get the calcium to where I wanted it using just Kalkwasser.

I think it depends on the size of your tank and your calcium demand. I would imagine kalk alone on a large tank with a large amount of sps would not work well, because you can only really dose what you evaporate and are topping off, which is why a calcium reactor is much better.

If you look around a lot of large tanks use both a calcium reactor and kalk reactor. I think this helps keep calcium levels up while keeping PH up as well

Hope that helpls a little, I have never used a calcium reactor so I cant comment on persoanl experience I have used a diy kalk reactor and two parts solutions they both worked id say with tank your size a kalk reactor would be far more cost effective than a 2 part

I'm opposite of Andy, I cannot keep the alkalinity up with just a kalk stirrer on 280g of water. It would drop 2 dkh every 3-4 days, but Ca was stable @ 4.25 ppm

x 2....a calcium reactor just makes life easier w/o having to check the #s every day.....

I run a 120 with just Kalk mix in with my RO top off water but alway seem to need Buffer to keep up my alk.CA is always 450
My new 210 has both Kalk and CA reactor . Better set up but I ran my 120 on kalk for 10 years. Kalk is mixed in 5 G bucket with a pump and float switch for top off. Easy as pie

The advantage to the 5 G bucket is I mix it up once a week but it is RO fed. It all depends how you top off now. If you have a system inplace then the cost is very cheap. I must admit I never used a Kalkreactor so I have no experience with them. People have said the fact the bucket is not completely sealed there is alot of precipitate but as I said I have done this for 10 years. Oh also my sumps are in the basement so there is no eye sore. If you have everything contained in a stand that could make a difference. HTH
