Kasey's Kube

Yeah, I know what store you're talking about, and I agree. :p I figured by the lack of stores there definitely wouldn't be much in this area. It would be nice to get together sometime; I'll let you know. :)

It already looks great, but I think that cutting it would help ensure that the attention is always drawn to the tank. If you can cut 45 degree angles, then you could take the pieces you cut from the front and make them braces for the 90's in the back. You'd have to drill some holes and put a couple of bolts through them, but it would still look clean yet give all the support you need. Just some thoughts; hope they help. :)

Here's an illustration to show what I mean (I find pics are always nice. :p):

Kasey..

i have taken your idea. but used different material..

Reason? i just couldn't cut it 45 degree angle with hacksaw ..
so i went to Home depxx this time and use the angle thingy(whatever they call it).. and made two holes and screwed it..

and it works great!!! very sturdy...and fit.~(well darker gray but just gave it a tone to the hole unit!)

Well, I've tested the pH for the third time. It's been a few days since I've completely changed the fresh water, and the pH is still holding in the low 7's. I'm waiting on one more ball valve from Marine Depot to complete the plumbing. After that, I believe this tank will be ready for salt water! :D It's been a long road for this tank, but I'm betting it'll be worth it.

So, I've decide to modify the tank. I'm going to be taking out the bulkheads, covering the holes with acrylic, building an external overflow from black acrylic, and adding a sump. There were just too many road blocks in terms of upgrading equipment. Here's a pic to show you the plan:

The plan is add an ATO, BM NAC 3.5 skimmer, and possibly a Turf Algae Scrubber. :D

Ok, it's been a while since my last post. I recently got married, and my wife and I just returned from our honeymoon. I use this fact as an excuse for my absence. :p Like I mentioned before, I'm building an overflow box with black acrylic. Here's the progress thus far:
This shot shows the four pieces that are now bonded.

Now, I cut the pieces with an unguided jigsaw, and while the exterior view of the joints looks great, the seams aren't perfectly straight. That is why I used Weld-On 16; it has a medium body which is great for filling very small gaps. The bonds are very strong so far.

More to come! :)

Congratulations on getting married!

Overflow Box looks good too.

Congratulations on getting married.

It was smart to start the tank before the wedding.

Justsayin.

Thanks guys!

Mike, you are quite right. :p

As a side note, I used a blade designed for metal with quite a few teeth (I'll have to check the number). Anyway, after my first cut, I decided to pour water over the lines I wanted to cut. It worked like a charm, no melting! :D

Here are some quick pics of the overflow behind the tank. The only thing left to do is finish attaching it to the back as well as the plate over the bottom holes. The black piece in the tank is just scrap. :p Things look like they're coming together!

Such a sharp set-up. Congrats on the funeral er wedding. The 1/2" acrylic looks really sharp and the led fixture is pro.

Glad to see u get ur feet wet again . I always enjoyed ur builds .
Too bad I am not in NC anymore . I lived in Winterville . U gotta go to Marabella's for pizza (imho best in town) .

If you don't know the LFS's in the area PM me .
Looks like a good start .

Great progress so far. I was hoping to see the first idea go through witht thew closed loop for my own purpose but in reefing there is always something else to do. Tagging along if u dont mind.
