Has anyone here kept a pair of flagtail pipefish? I would love to setup a small species only tank to keep a pair of these and would like to find out your experiences. any info would be appreciated.

It would help to note what specifically you would like to know; do you have anything specific you would like to know about?

Yes, I have and I love them. They are quite popular, as once you get them established, they're actually quite hardy and switch easily to frozen food. Tank size would depend on the species of flagtail you decided to keep.

i dont know the exact name i was told they are pschodelic pipefish(i really doubt thats their name) they were the really colorful type

sounds like somebody is making up names...

the species that regularly show up in the hobby are:

banded (Doryhamphus dactyliophorus), blue-stripe (D. excisus), Janss' (D. janssi), yellow-striped (D. pessuliferus), multistriped (D. mulitifaciatus).

the latter two species are often confused with one another, and i suspect that one of these species is the "psychodelic pipe". however, IME, these are also the tuffest to wean and keep sucessfully, as many are malnourished by the time you get them.

I have a pair of Doryrhamphus baldwini in my 75 reef. They eat just about anything I put in the tank. I have them in with a pair of clowns, a small blue tang, a yellow coris wrasse, two leopard wrasses, a tailspot blenny, and three shrimp gobies. The temperature is kept between 78-80. The only fish to pester them are the blenny and the yellow coris. I am going to remove both.
