Keeping a LTA and BTA in the same tank.

Is this possible? I have a 10"+ LTA in my tank(150 gal) and I would like to put a BTA in the tank for a couple months until I feel my new clown tank is ready for an anemone . My rock work makes into two separate islands so im not to worried about direct contact, more worried about some kind odds chemical warfare, any dos and don'ts would be great thanks..

FYI the clown tank has been sent up and going since april, its a 29 gal with T-5 lighting. Any thoughts on this setup for a pair of clowns and an anemone also.

I was actually wondering the same thing. Most of what I have read says mixing species can be an issue. But if you run carbon it is supposed to help with the possible allelopathy (chemical warfare).

I would love to have mixed anemones in my 90 gallon. I was thinking I might just get a GBTA since I have a RBTA. Sames species at least. Still worried about allelopathy though. Especially since I have my original and a clone. They might team up. I will be interested to read what others say.

Good luck.

It actually depends a bit on many parameters that we don't understand fully. Some have had success, but others (Including Todd) have had problems. I think there might be some that can successfully live together, but there might be factors such as running carbon, water volume, other inhabitants etc that can affect successful outcomes. If you are able to acquire known healthy specimens (i.e. from a local with a known healthy anemone), it will help take some of the guesswork of "is this from shipping or are they actually unhappy" out of the equation.

Mavrk - BTA's and RBTA's are the same species, just different color variations. mixing colors of the same species has been known to work just fine. Mixing colors from different species and having them end up touching can end up disastrous.

Yeah, I know they are the same spp. I just remember reading that unless they were clones, there can still be a battle going on. As I recall, someone mentioned that if they split, then they may defend the territory more vigorously to newcomers. This could have been incorrect information, so I have been meaning to ask the experts about this. Thanks for the input.
