Keeping a mantis.

Im thinking about keeping a mantis in a 15 gallon (glass) tank in my room... Is this big enough? Should I just save up for an acrylic? What will they eat? How deep should the substrate be? How much can I expect to buy one for? ( Im trying to find a peacock)

If you look hard enough, people tend to give them away. They are unwanted hitchhickers on LR (like TBS) and people don't know what to do with them, except kill them because they destroy reef tanks and can break the glass.

We've kept one in a 10g glass with some plain rocks thown in and a whisper filter. He's pretty happy in there. We've given him some brine and unwanted gorilla crabs to feed on.

I'm not so sure the glass tank is the best idea...you may wish to go with acrylic to be on the safe side!

They are awesome to watch, just be careful when handling them. I've seen a nasty pic here on RC of a guy who was hit by one. Not a pretty sight!

well what type u want a peacock no a mantis like a N.wenn yes but i think a 15 is to big for a N.wenn mabe try a 2.5 tank if its small and a 5.5 for life.Like your minibow 2.5 can hold a N.wenn for life maybe i know some ppl who say a 5.5 is to big.TBS is good LR and the mantis u get out of that are N.wenns lol well ttyl.
