Keeping clams on my sandbed

um croceas dont like sand as much but I have seen them in sand beds your best bet with them is to put them up in your rock work as they love light lots and lots of it maximas are the next most demaning and they also like the rocks but also seen them in sand again best bet is to put them directly under the light also. easyer clams for sand beds are squamosas and gigas and not to forgit derasas.

I used to keep clams on my sand bed. I lost two in a couple of months, due to a bristle worm (I think) in the sand, boring through the bottom. I've heard, that clams have a much better chance in the rocks, where they will attach, and less likely they will be attacked through the bottom. I wouldn't put a clam on the sand, based on my past experiences, but many do with success.

For a clam to attach on the rock work do you just put it so the mantle is pointing up and then it will eventually attach?

I dont have very flat rockwork so that might not work out.

Do you think a deresa on the sandbed will be happy with my lights?(i dont kno if they are strong enough)

bristle worms should not mess with your clams unless they get huge at that point they are a pest and need to be removed but smalls ones should not bother clams.

I don't have any experience with any large clams but I have had very good success with a very small clam that I've caught along the beach (they bury themselves quickly into the sand when the waves wash back). I had to aclimate them to my tank water and temp but I keep approx. 200 of them in the bottom of my sump and they seem to do well. I do have a decent amount of Bristle worms but I havent' noticed any problems. Of course water quality seems to be the quickest of all killers for them. Now if only the rest of the public knew that!
