Keeping Green Coris Wrass

I'm thinking if getting a Green Coris Wrasse, but most of the ones I see their color is all faded. If I do an image search online I see lots with a bright green color, some small some large. Are their different kinds of green coris wrasse or a secret to keeping the bright green coloring or are the males brighter than the females? What do you think?

Sometimes they are called Green Wrasse and other times its Green Coris Wrasse. Anyways heres a picture of what I'm looking for.

They look faded in the LFS probably cause they are stressed. Once in the right surroundings and after feeding on some NLS pellets, they should regain their colour

PS - i've just reserved 2 at my lfs. They will look great with my 5 other wrasses

Over the years as ours has grown it's faded a little but was not that bright to begin with when we purchased it. The belly is lighter in color compared to the rest of the body.

Always cruising the rocks picking at potential pests. Has a thing for hermits though.

I had one for years, It was very green like the pic but as it aged it was slightly duller and developed the white belly. It had some faint pink stripes on it's face when it reached adulthood. It was probably 5" long and very thick in the body.

Any pictures of one in your tank.
I'll try and get one at lunch, my lights were already ramping down when I got home and he was already hiding.

jarrod13 - Is yours a good citizen? Ours tends to remind others that he's not to be messed with.

Heres and old pic of mine front and center. Mine is the alpha in my tank but doesn't really bother the other fishes. Just postures up and opens his mouth to intimindate every once in a while.

I'm not sure about smaller snails but my turbos, torchus and astrea snails are left alone. But these wrasse sure likes to go through pods and tiny starfish.

Mine hasnt ever actually ate any snails that I can tell (I don't count them) but I have seen him peck at them before

If you have any other green colored fish in your tank BEWARE this fish can be nasty. If you are looking for a green fish I would suggest a peaceful Sea Grass Wrasse. They are absolutely super cool (they float vertically in the currents at times like a blade of grass) and very peaceful. You can find them in green variance from dull to bright lime green. Good Luck.

Sea Grass Wrasse sounds interesting but do they keep their color? Liveaquaria list them as Semi-aggressive.

Is green coris wrasse compatible with a yellow coris wrasse?

I never tried a yellow coris, but I've tried other Halichoers wrasses and it never worked, the green coris had already been established in the tank prior to any other wrasses being added.
