keeping my hermits alive?

Wat are some ways to keep your hermits alive.? mines seems to go away after a 6monthes. i dont know why. What should i feed them. Im talking about scarlet hermits mostly.

not sure they should do fine on their own, i have blue leg hermits and never have a prob. with them

my scarlets like to burry them selfs in the sand
i never see them untill i move stuff around i will
un burry them and they will just burry them selves again
its accually quite funny

Hermit's will fight with eachother to try and get a bigger shell. The hermit that loses has no shell and ends up dying since it is exposed, unless it finds another shell quickly.
Do you have extra differnt sized shells in the tank?

I got some of my smaller ones from old Crushed coral. But you can buy them on E bay. You can go to Walmart and go intot he craft section and buy differnt sized bags of shells. Or a local craft store. After you buy them I would boil them in water for about 5 minutes.

ask at your LFS, i have one that gives them to me and another that wants a buck for 5.

Are there any other hermits beside scarlets? I've had scarlets and someother type of hermits. And quite often found dead shellles scarlets. After I got rid of "predator" hermits, my 2 scarlet hermits are healthy and growing

I took your advice a while back and got some shells from the local craft store. What a sight, I must have had some squeezed hermits. These guys saw the shells hitting bottom and it wasen't 1 minute and about 3 of my blue legs were cruising down to the substrate to check out the shells. It was quite a sight to see these guys swap shells out. There are quick. They actually turned the shells to get the air out of them and then pulled it close and in a blink of an eye they had done the swap. It was really a sight to see.

So if you have some hermits give em some different sized shells as Blown346 suggests. It was really something to see. My wife and I just rolled watching these guys switch out there shells.

Any LFS should have a bowl next to the register with a buncha shell in it. Those're them. Usually you see'm at 5 for $1.00 but if you ask real nice I bet they'd let you snag one or two for free. I know the guy by me is cool like that.
