keeping sps

Im in the middle at 8-8.6 dkh. Its really up to the reef keeper. Only warning is not to let it drop below 7. Bad things will happen = /

people that run ultra low nutrient systems(usually a carbon dosing system or a zeovite additives liek that) require a lower alk like 7,8 around nsw. I dont do that the only thing i add is calcium alk and topoff water so i keep my alk at 9.

as posted above, the lower the nutritions are, the more fragile SPS get specially at the tips (if you touch most SPS in ULNS tanks, the tip will break up easy) that is why they are more sensitive to higher KH so 6.5-7.5 is recommended. and higher will burn the tips, lower would seaze growth.

fish need 5 DKH at least.

I couldnt figureout why my sps looked like crap, after doing muiltple tests with my Elos KH and coming up wit 8.0 dkh, I ad to up my bubbles to 1.5 a second and dose on top of it. Corals looked bad. I took some water and had it tested to find I was really at 12.4 dkh. I since then have changed all my test kits to salferit and change my settings on my reator. Also stoppeddosing. Corals look better and better eveyday.
