how good is the Kenmore Ultrafilter 500 R/O (sears)? I saw it on ebay for a good price.

It is strictly an RO and not an RO/DI. Its probably only a 25 GPD as most drinking water systems like that are. It can be upgraded but you might be better off starting with a better unit to begin with, you will end up having more invested when done upgrading in most cases.
