Kent Phosphate Remover

I have some Kent Phosphate Remover coming tommorow and was wondering where the best place is to put it? I have a sump where the first section is live rock rubble and the second section holds the pumps for the output and the skimmer.

If any corals close up, especially leathers, remove it as it may release aluminum into the water that can irritate them. Rinse it well before use too.

You also need to soak in in RO water before you use it. It gets very hot when first wetted.

Keep in mind that stuff is only good for about 24 hours then it starts releasing all the Phosphate back into the water.

Is that ture seapug? that means the prosphate reactor don't remove the phosphate without replacing the media every 24 hours?

yes. It's stated on the labeling. It's why GFO media (PhosBan, RowaPhos, etc.) are much much better to use.

I don't have a reactor yet. I am going to try and get one soon but bought this as a temporary fix. So if I remove it in less than 48 hours it should be OK?

Oops. I've had mine in a reactor for much longer than 48 hours, and was wondering why my leather was withdrawn.

Other than a waterchange (which I plan to do but will take 24-48 hrs to get my RO volume and salt mixed), what can I do to help my leather?

Should I move my leather to my QT, even though I only have normal flourescent lighting?

The best solution is to just not use aluminum based phosphate binders. Most any that are white contain aluminum. Once you stop, it will eventually come back to normal. I would probably not move it.

I discuss and demonstrate the problem here:

That does not solve the aluminum release problem, just the purported release of phosphate. FWIW, there is definitely nothing magical about 48 hours. If it releases phosphate back, it is because something else is binding to the media and displacing the phosphate. How fast that happens (if ever) depends on what else is in the tank water.

Okay, I thought the phosphate remover means Phosphate Reactor........Sorry
