Kent salt

I was wondering if anyone had any info on Kent salt. I have a bucket with 520cal and 1.9dkh, right out of the bag, and the local retailer I got it from has about 32 buckets of the stuff, plus what he's already sold. What's up with those numbers? I didn't get the salt from you, but I thought you maybe able to answer some questions about it. My tanks been really crappy and I didn't know why, but now I do. I've heard Kent knew about it, but sold the salt anyway without warning, and that the salt's actually made in China now. BTW, it's the 200gal buckets with the salt inside the plastic bag, w/o the rubber seal. Thank you.

Unfortunately I can not really speak for Kent as to what is going on there. I can tell you though that since Central Garden and Pet has purchased Kent Marine the salt buckets have changed coloration on the outside lettering, and are no longer being shipped out of Aquarium Systems (same factory that produces IO and RC). Since this change I noticed some differences in my system as that were not for the better, which would lead me to believe te formulation would have changed. We have since changed over to the new Seachem Reef Salt and so far so good!

I to order my Kent Salt form Premium Aquatics by the buckets. Please let my know how changing the salt brand goes, If Kent wants produce a less quality salt,I do not want to take that chance . So if Seachem Reef Salt works, then I think it will be time for me to chang too. Please keep me informed.

I am now ready to order my bucket of salt. In the earlier post you stated that you switched from Kent to Seachem Reef Salt. Because Kent has lost their quality. Have you noticed a difference (good, bad or none) in your tank since you made this change?

Hi Alvin,

The main difference that I have seen is the cyano problems I was experiencing have since been on the decline. I did notice a little bleaching from various sps when the Kent started to come in packaged differently. Having said that there really isn't any scientific evidene that it was the salt, it just all coincided with the salt changes I was making it seemed.
