Kent Sea Salt

That is pretty good, very high number though. Unless your calcium reactor can maintain that level, I wouldn't do big water changes with this salt, anything over 10% will potentialy shock your system.

I keep my alk at about 7-8 calcium about 420 and magnesium 1300 and getting very good growth.

Thanks mike. 6th ave have this salt bucket that make up 200 gal for about $40-45. I have been using IO and adjust magnesium, cal before I do water changes. What I think will be good is mixing this with IO 1/2 and 1/2 to get a number that is closer to my tank's parameter before doing water changes.

IO measurements are

Cal 380
Alk 10
MG 1290

so if I do 1/2 and 1/2 the measurement will be about:

Cal 420
Alk 10.5
Mg 1370

I think this number will match with my tank perfectly when I do a 10% water change.

heres my "RED SEA" salt numbers

CA--330
KH--9.0
mike had the MG test(It was too far to walk across the street to grab it)

Jeff, Redsea salt is pretty low, you might want to add turbo calcium to your make up water before doing water changes. I have a bunch, I can give you some.

I bet magnesium is low too.

I actually have had great sucess with Red sea salt. When i use RO/DI I tend to get consistant Alk 8-10 dkH, Calcium readings between 425-450 and Mg avg of 1250. don't forget your Mg. level is related to your Salinity.

James, I dont know why you would get almost 100 points higher on your calcium with the same salt......I do use ro/di water with results in the 1-3 ppm tds range......mabe it changes from batch to batch

YA, i just mixed up 30 gal and running a heater and powerhead...i'll check tommorrow before water change

Hmmmm maybe you got a bad batch ??? that cal number is very low, come over and get some Dow flakes and bring that calcium up before doing your water change, I have some for you and Mike

Alk and Mag look good though

Once your water change is done, make sure to bring up the calcium of your tank to 420 during the next couple of days

Ok, lets set up a time to build that. I have guest this weekend but during the week evening I am free, I am free next tuesday night, Thursday night? or next Sunday so let me know

Hey Tom,
Here is the Kent Sea Salt Results using salifert test kits.

Ca 480
Kh 11.2
Mg 1450

IO measurements are

Cal 380
Alk 10
MG 1290

so if I do 1/2 and 1/2 the measurement will be about:

Cal 420
Alk 10.5
Mg 1370

Hey Tom you were preaty close. I did a half IO and Half Kent and here were my results

Ca 435
Alk 10.3
Mag 1350

this was right off the shelf without adding anything
